Intermittent rains lashed Kashmir on Tuesday even as weatherman predicted more precipitation in next 24 hours.
The intermittent rains started in Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon and continued till evening. MET officials said Srinagar recorded 1.0 mm , Qazigund 2.4 mm, Pahalgam 14.2 mm, Kupwara 0.6mm, Kokernag 29.2mm and Gulmarg 6.6mm of rainfall.
Pertinently, weather turned pleasant due to rain on Monday afternoon much to the delight of the people in Kashmir.
MET officials said that the night temperature surged and settled at 7.3 degree, against seven degree recorded yesterday.
The day temperature of Jammu on Tuesday plumped to record 11 notches after several parts of this hilly Himalayan state received fresh rain and hailstorm.
As per weathermen, mercury dipped by a few notches here and settled between 28-30 degrees Celsius providing the much needed respite to the people of Jammu, who are facing scorching heat and unbearable temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius since last one week.
The weathermen revealed that Jammu had recorded 40 degrees Celsius as maximum temperature yesterday, which dipped to 28.90 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. They added that respite came at a time when entire north India is reeling under an unprecedented heat wave.
The weatherman also predicted that weather will remain pleasant for next two days ending on May 18.
“Light rain and thundershowers may occur in hilly areas of Jammu for next two days. Hailstorm may also lash some scattered place of Jammu,” said noted weather scientist and In-charge of Agrometeorology department at SKUAST-J, Dr. Mahender Singh,
The Met also said that region has received rainfall of 10.7 millimeters in last 24 hour, mainly at upper reaches of Banihal, Batote and Bhaderwah weather zones while rainfall in Jammu and Katra remained non-traceable.
